The point is not the poor federal employees afraid of losing their jobs. It’s the vital government services those jobs provide. Who benefits from shutting down or crippling the National Weather Service? The food inspectors? The air traffic controllers? The emergency responders?

Plus, just putting thousands of people wholesale out of work is disastrous for the economy. The money those people can no longer spend cuts into the income of the businesses they would have spent it with, maybe forcing those businesses to start letting people go. Pretty soon you’ve snowballed into a recession (or worse).

This isn’t accountability, it’s mindless, senseless, performative destruction. If you think the United States Government is a bad idea, wait till you see what life is like without it.
