@Rogue 4 Gay:

“Should Christmas be a holiday?”

Absolutely, Christmas is a holiday, for those who observe it. Try to conceptualize that not everyone does. Other holidays include Passover, Diwali, Eid al-Fitr, the Summer Solstice, and International Talk Like a Pirate Day. These others all manage to get along just fine without Federal legislation. Singling out Christmas for special recognition is an unconstitutional establishment of religion.

”Should Thanksgiving be a holiday?”

Sure, why not, as long as you keep it secular. Note that contrary to widely held belief, “secular” doesn’t mean anti-religious, it means neutral with respect to religion. I am a devout atheist, but I use the day to give thanks for the things I value. There doesn’t have to be a deity at the other end to be thankful to.

“Should Easter be a holiday?”

See Christmas, above. If it’s meaningful to you, have all the sunrise services, eggs, and bunnies you want. You don’t need government legislation to recognize your holiday.

“Should we have marriage at all?”

As far as the law is concerned, no: we should have civil union between individuals committed to each other. If your religion demands some form of ceremony or ritual, feel free; the Constitution guarantees your free exercise of religion. You can be religiously married, civilly united, both, or neither; but only the civil union should have the force of law.
