My problem with the ending had nothing to do with Danaerys. It was the cheap resolution to the Night King and the White Walkers. That was supposed to be the crux of the whole series, the climactic battle of Ice and Fire, the return of Azor Ahai, the Prince That Was Promised.
The show runners took their eye off the ball, forgot what the whole thing was supposed to be about. Instead we got all kinds of sappy, crowd-pleasing romantic resolutions (Jaime and Brienne, Arya and Gendry, etc.). They completely lost touch with GRRM’s tone and style.
