I think you’re being unfair to the Democrats. I truly believe they would keep all those promises if they could, but are blocked by structural, antidemocratic institutions that disproportionately empower the minority: the Electoral College, non-proportional Senate representation, filibuster, etc. We are stuck with a dysfunctional system that can’t be changed, precisely because low-population, conservative states hold disproportionate power to block the needed reforms.
In what kind of “democracy” can the majority of voters not elect a president and the majority of legislators not enact legislation? Without fundamental institutional change, the Democrats are powerless to implement their policies. And no, the extreme, counter-common-sense positions espoused by the “progressive” left don’t help, either.
