Gee, Martin, I never noticed . . .

The real significance of the Kansas result is the immense turnout, twice that of their last midterm primary, in sleepy August, with most of the down-ballot Congressional and statehouse races uncontested.

What Democrats now need to do is build that kind of turnout nationwide into a broad repudiation of the Republican Party on democracy, abortion, and guns. Hold the House, gain just one seat in the Senate, and start enacting meaningful legislation like the For the People Act, restoring the preclearance provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, etc. It’s still an uphill climb, but it’s not out of reach.
