…ing the word “y’all” a few times in the South might get you a job, or at least a better hotel room. Similarly, even a little bit of code switching while talking to Black folks signals respect and warmth. (See what I did there? I wrote “folks” instead of “people” to signal the statement is not racially hostile.)

Except that you got the shibboleth a little bit wrong. If you pay close attention, you’ll see that the correct wokeness signal is “folk,” without the “s.” Listen carefully and see if I’m not right.
